Faux wood blinds
We love the blinds that we have selected for the numerous windows in our home! Because we have a large family with many children, cost is paramount to us. We needed cheap faux wood blinds that still looked attractive; we did not want our blinds to look like they were poorly made or flimsy. We did a little comparative shopping and looked around for several options for inexpensive wood blinds, and we’re very happy with the blinds we have selected.
1 and 2 inch faux wood blinds
Although some families prefer to have a uniform look of blinds throughout their home, our style is more eclectic. We actually chose a variety of different inexpensive blinds. For our bedrooms upstairs we used 2 inch faux wood blinds. Our bathrooms and kitchen have smaller windows, so we used 1 inch faux wood blinds and 1.5 inch faux wood blinds, respectively. We have a set of windows in our living room that spans both stories of the house, so for these over-sized windows we chose 3 inch faux wood blinds. My husband and I feel that using different thicknesses of discount faux wood blinds throughout the home adds to the character of the room.
Although the thicknesses of our discount wood blinds differ from room to room, we chose to go with bali faux wood blinds throughout the home. They have the look of real wood blinds but at a fraction of the price. We’ve had friends comment on how nice they look, and some have even been fooled into thinking that they are real wood blinds! Because we have different color palettes throughout the home, we chose several different shades of bali faux wood blinds, but all are equally beautiful.
How to clean faux wood blinds?
This is our first experience with blinds so it wasn’t too long after we purchased them that we also did some research on how to clean faux wood blinds. The good news is, cleaning faux wood blinds is easier than cleaning real wood blinds! Because they are not made of real wood, they can be cleaned with water or a damp cloth or sponge. I like to keep up with them and not have to clean when they are absolutely filthy, so include my blinds with my dusting regimen every other week. I have found the dusting cloths like Swiffer work very well in getting dirt and grime off the blinds. Usually I’ll turn the blinds closed one way, wipe them off, and then turn the blinds closed the other way and wipe them off as well. A friend of mine also swears by her multi-fingered blind cleaner, but for our purposes the dusting cloths work fine. If you do not want to dust quite as frequently, the good news is it’s also easy to clean faux wood blinds with regular soap and water. They can be taken down and sprayed down outside, or soaked in the bathtub. Either way the result is blinds that look brand new! There’s really no set rule as to how often you should clean the blinds, although if you have white faux wood blinds you might find it beneficial to clean them more frequently, as white faux wood blinds show dirt more quickly.
Our bedrooms all have cordless faux wood blinds. This is important to us for a couple reasons. First, the cords can potentially be a safety hazard to our smaller children and pets. My twin babies love to crawl around on the floor and put things in their mouths, and I didn’t want to worry about them getting tangled up in the cords. Secondly, cordlesss faux wood blinds have a cleaner look, with no cords getting in the way of the view. It’s nice to be able to look outside and not have strings and cords in the way! Raising and lowering the blinds is a snap; we just push up or pull down as we wish.
As I mentioned before we have some very large windows in our living room, with unusual measurements. For these windows we opted to spend a little more on custom made faux wood blinds. It was worth it to us to have blinds that fit properly. Since we plan on living in our home for many years to come, the custom faux wood blinds were more of an investment to us.
If you prefer a more antique look to your blinds, consider plantation faux wood blinds. These have a slat in the middle of the blinds that allow the blinds to be opened or closed. The biggest difference between these and bali blinds is that plantation blinds cannot be raised and lowered.
When comparing faux wood blinds vs real wood blinds, in our opinion the faux wood blinds are a better deal. Faux wood does not sacrifice anything on appearance, yet they are less expensive and easier to clean. We would recommend inexpensive faux wood blinds for everyone looking to install blinds in their home.
